Levenfeld Pearlstein Partner Mary Wasik Named Chair of Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter
CHICAGO, July 18, 2017 – Levenfeld Pearlstein, LLC (LP) is pleased to congratulate Mary Wasik, a longtime partner in its Corporate & Securities Group, on her election as chair of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter. Wasik joined the Board in 2012 after her mother's death from Alzheimer's, deciding to volunteer her services in support of the work that the Illinois Chapter provides for Illinois families impacted by the disease after experiencing the devastating effects of the disease in her own family.
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading volunteer health organization whose mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through research, provide care and support for those affected and to promote brain health. The Illinois Chapter is one of over 70 chapters nationwide and serves 87 Illinois counties, with offices in Bloomington, Carbondale, Chicago, Joliet, Peoria, Quincy, Rockford and Springfield. Since 1980, the Association has provided reliable information and care consultation; created supportive services for families; increased funding for dementia research; and influenced public policy changes across the state.
"It is a privilege for me to be able to serve the Illinois Chapter in the role of Chair," Wasik said. "There are hundreds of volunteers in Illinois who regularly offer their time and resources to the Chapter in so many areas, including fundraising, advocacy, and care and support. I am grateful to be able to make my contribution by leading the Board."
The Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association was created in 1980, and has funded research to stop the disease, while also supporting those already affected by Alzheimer's. In Illinois, the Alzheimer’s Association has invested $12 million for research in the state, and supports the 220,000 Illinois residents with Alzheimer's disease. Worldwide, the association has invested $375 million in active research projects.
Professionally, Wasik advises clients on acquisition and sale transactions, the structure and preparation of limited liability company and partnership agreements, and agreements among shareholders. She also assists clients with other challenges that arise in the day-to-day operations of a business. She also works with non-profit clients in connection with formation, governance and registration requirements, and has helped clients obtain certifications as minority and women-owned businesses, including structuring sale and purchase transactions for purposes of retaining or obtaining such certifications.
