- Clients often ask: when is the best time to make a taxable gift? One simple answer: In a presidential election year when the future of gift and estate tax exemptions is unknown, the best time to make a gift is any time before December 31 in that election year, with a preference towards an earlier time frame. - The Illinois Supreme Court is planning a return to in-person oral arguments in September and is slated to hear arguments in 17 cases this month, beginning on September 15. Court Spokesman Chris Bonjean told the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin that all courtroom proceedings will be livestreamed on BlueRoom Stream, and in-person attendance will be limited to ensure proper social distancing. The high court also revised its COVID-19 guidance, stating that all individuals – including judges, attorneys, court staff, and others — must wear a face mask or face covering to enter courthouses.
