Crain’s Chicago Business has recognized Harold Israel and Robert Romanoff among its 2024 Notable Nonprofit Board Leaders. The editorial feature acknowledges top nonprofit board leaders in Chicago. Due to their recognition, Harold and Rob were both featured in a brief interview for Crain’s Content Studio.
“We are immensely proud that the firm’s commitment to supporting and empowering community organizations is stronger than ever,” said Managing Partner Jeffery Hoffenberg. “As a firm, we are grateful for the service and leadership Harold and Rob provide to the community, and we are pleased that they have been recognized for their commitment and efforts.”
As Board Chair of Spertus Institute, Harold Israel has advanced its mission to provide higher education “rooted in Jewish wisdom and culture and open to all.” He has helped Spertus Institute expand its brand nationally and internationally through strategic communications and groundbreaking initiatives like the Leadership Certificate in Combating Antisemitism.
A partner in the firm’s Financial Services & Restructuring Practice Group, Harold helps clients achieve outstanding results in a practical, responsive and cost-effective manner. In addition to his service on Spertus’ Board of Trustees, Harold is also a past Chairman of Credit Abuse Resistance Education (CARE) and Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee, and a past president of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association and Temple Beth-El in Northbrook, Illinois.
As Chair of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, Rob Romanoff works to advance the Museum’s mission to build a transformational, world-class museum that meets learners where they are by exploring new ways to deliver content. Under his leadership, the Museum is developing a new strategic plan, increasing its engagement in the broader community (both within and beyond Chicago), and re-envisioning its platform for board engagement.
Rob is a partner in LP’s Trusts & Estates Practice Group and the firm’s previous Managing Partner. In addition to Rob’s service to the Museum, he is also a member of the Board of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Board of Rochelle Zell Jewish High School. He frequently provides pro bono legal services to charitable organizations to help structure lifetime and testamentary gifts.
